Do Bernedoodles And Sheepadoodles Need To Be Groomed? When it comes to Bernedoodle’s coat and grooming requirements, there are a few things to note. Their coat is a combination of the thick Bernese coat and the hypoallergenic poodle coat resulting in a lower shedding, typically allergy friendly coat ranging from wavy to curly. Bernedoodles are similar to Poodles in that they have hair rather than fur, and they shed very little if at all - definitely one of our favourite things about this breed! However, this means that it needs to be brushed regularly to prevent it from matting. When it mats, it develops little clumps almost like tumbleweed under the overcoat, and this can be a very difficult to comb through so it’s important to ensure matting doesn’t develop. The curlier the coat, the more often it should be brushed. Some Bernedoodle owners brush the dog every day. In addition to brushing the Bernedoodles coat, it should also be clipped every two to three months. The dog can be bathed a few times a year but should not be bathed too often to avoid stripping the coat of its natural oils. When it comes to Sheepadoodle’s coat, it ranges from straight to curly. This thick coat needs to be maintained with daily grooming and monthly bathing. The benefit to this for type is that it rarely shed and is hypoallergenic. Although there is a possibility that some will have more old English Sheepdog in the genes and it will have a slightly shaggy shedding coat. Grooming your Sheepadoodle is important to maintain their coat health. They need to be regularly brushed to maintain a long coat. Whether your dogs coat is curly or straight it still requires an occasional trim, especially around the eyes.
